Major Layoffs At MySpace!

This is awful to hear, especially at the start of a new year.
Sources are reporting that MySpace, which has been struggling for awhile now to compete with other social networking sites, may have plans to layoff off a significant amount of its staff - half of them, to be exact.
We're hearing that as much as [...]

Christina Aguilera And Cam Gigandet Talk Sexy 'Burlesque' Wardrobe

While Xtina squeezed into 'push-up bras, high heels and fishnet stockings,' Gigandet wore ...a cookie box?
By Brianne Riviello, with reporting by Kara Warner

Fresh off Christina Aguilera's saucy song-and-dance number at the American Music Awards on Sunday, many are sweating out the release of her new film, "Burlesque," which hits theaters Wednesday.

"Burlesque" follows a small-town girl (Aguilera) who journeys to the city looking for her big break but instead finds herself in the sensual world of burlesque. Aguilera makes her feature debut alongside the legendary Cher and a beautiful and talented supporting cast that includes Cam Gigandet, Stanley Tucci, Julianne Hough and Eric Dane.

We recently caught up with the stars of the film, who giggled as they recalled their unique wardrobe racks for the suggestive-yet-sweet musical.

Gigandet joked that, unlike the women in the film who were clad in elaborate bustiers and stockings, his wardrobe included "cookie boxes and pajamas." (In one very memorable scene, Gigandet parades around with nothing but a Famous Amos box covering his nether regions.) Aguilera lamented that he got off easy: "You didn't have to do any push-up bras, any high heels, any fishnet stockings."

Aguilera did reveal a few makeup secrets, however, and reported that Gigandet donned eyeliner for his part as Jack, the love interest to Aguilera's Ali. Gigandet took it all in stride. "It was fun to be something different," he said. "Yes, it was. I gotta say, it made my job easier to kind of, you know, step into a different character, into a different world."

On a side note, Gigandet also commented on how the legion of fans from his stint in the "Twilight" series has followed him, as compared to other roles — particularly as martial-arts champion Ryan McCarthy in 2008's "Never Back Down."

"It varies, where I am," he said, regarding whether he's still bombarded by Twilighters wherever he goes. "I mean, you know, when I was in New Orleans and Louisiana a few months ago, it was 'Never Back Down' that caught everyone's attention. I know, I love it. But there's 'Twilight' fans all over the world."

Aguilera noted that, once "Burlesque" hits theaters, it will be Gigandet's character Jack who will get all the buzz from fans. "Of course," Gigandet laughed. "Then I'll be 'Famous Amos cookies' for the rest of my life."

Check out everything we've got on "Burlesque."

Oh yes, it's a Britney post everyone!!!

Fresh on the heels of Billboard reporting that they had heard the new Britney single titled Hold It Against Me, new info is being reported on Britney fansites claiming inside knowledge.

The sound of the single is very innovative and hard to describe because this is a sound that Britney has never operated. There are jerks in the Freakshow and Get Naked Music style but has nothing to do with Blackout. At one point near the end, it is believed that the song is over, there is a white and resume of a sudden with huge bass behind. In the lyrics to the chorus is the word Guilty (style: people say I'm guilty), and the title is repeated several times in the chorus.

Some extra info: I do not know if this will be confirmed but I only repeat what i've been told (I agree) Fake or not:

* The Provisional title of the album was LOVED(from where the message of LOVE in the Britney on Twitter) and is scheduled for mid-March (the date could be advanced)

* The U.S. radio broadcast is scheduled for January 7 and the song will be sent to French radio on Jan. 15 [date seems late compared to the U.S.]

(just for info: this same person told me in early October that that the filming for the new single is scheduled for January 2011, which is the case, and I had some fans who will testify.)

Two new songs believed to have been intended for Britney have been added to BMI.

Remember to take all news with a grain of salt, Britney fans! With Dr. Luke's recent revelation via twitter that all previously-thought-to-be-known Hold It Against Me lyrics are, in fact, FALSE. It's clear Jive is playing coy with us until they are ready to release information on their own terms.

Jesse Eisenberg Narrates New Holly Black Novel

Author Holly Black is no stranger to melding the fantastic and the magical with the modern day, having authored the Spiderwick Chronicles. She’s kind of like the Neil Gaiman of the YA audience, except that, just like Mr. Gaiman, her books have a much wider appeal than strictly one demographic. You don’t need to look very far recognize her talent: her novel Valiant, was an ALA Best Book for Young Adults and a recipient of the Andre Norton Award from the Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America.

So it should come as no surprise that we read in her official bio that “Holly spent her early years in a decaying Victorian mansion where her mother fed her a steady diet of ghost stories and books about faeries.” We’re reaping the benefit of those years of storytelling now.

Holly’s latest novel, White Cat (book one of the Curse Workers), takes the idea of magic in the modern world and mixes in a favorite flavor of the mystery genre (and, I’ll happily point out, a favorite element of Philip K. Dick)—that of the question of false memory.

In the video below, Holly talks about White Cat and gives us the scoop on what’s going on as the book opens. We also hear from actor Jesse Eisenberg, who narrates the audiobook. Mrs. Black, take it away…

Britney Spears' Producer Opens Up About Her New Album

'She is actually damn professional,' Shellback says in radio interview.

Britney Spears fans are gearing up for the release of the singer's new music in 2011. With the album due out in March, and a single expected to drop before then, details are slowly emerging about the music and what it was like to work with Spears on the follow-up to 2008's Circus.

"Right now we are preparing for Britney's upcoming album, which will be released in March. Some other things too, but the main focus is the album," Swedish producer Shellback said in a recent radio interview. "It works in many different ways [when you work with Britney]. You can make something absolutely new, or take a beat that's three years old and come up with a good sound."

Shellback, who worked with Pink on "Raise Your Glass," collaborated with Dr. Luke and Max Martin on music for Spears. The producers are donating a guitar they used on the album to charity.

"[Britney]'s actually damn professional. You read a lot on the Internet that Britney is not singing and mimes, but she is actually damn professional," Shellback said. "She's done it since she was 16. And just rhythmic way, she is f---ing awesome! And you do not have to go through and talk about the rhythms and stuff that you sometimes have to do. She's very easy in the studio."

Spears has shared her excitement about the new album with fans via her Twitter page. "I'm almost done with my new album and it will be coming out this March," she wrote. "I AM IN L-O-V-E WITH IT!"

Are you excited for Britney's new album? Tell us in the comments below!

Kanye And Gaga?! Readers React To Our Man And Woman Of The Year

Kanye West vs. Eminem, Lady Gaga vs. Britney Spears: Our readers duke it out over whether our picks for 2010's top man and woman were worthy.
By James Montgomery

Kanye West
Photo: D. Dipasupil/Getty Images

Last week, when MTV News revealed our picks for Man of the Year (Kanye West) and Woman of the Year (Lady Gaga), we expected that there would be some folks out there who wouldn't agree with our choices ... mostly, Eminem fans — because, as we've learned time and time again, they don't agree with anything.

But there's no way we could have predicted just how many people were genuinely outraged with our list ... MTV.com readers flooded our site with comments, calling us every name in the book, accusing us of vast multinational conspiracies, and doing everything short of declaring war on our headquarters (please don't attack on a Wednesday, that's Taco Day in the cafeteria). We're only slightly exaggerating.

(They're more than just pretty faces, but you can still check out photos of our Men and Women of 2010!)

By far, the biggest point of contention centered on our Man of the Year list ... and, more specifically, why we gave the award to West instead of Eminem. Fans of both men lit up the comments with passionate arguments, with each side working overtime to state their case. It got pretty nasty, which sort of made it even better.

Over on the Woman of the Year list, well, most people seemed to agree that Gaga deserved the honor, though, of course, there were still some out there who believed that Britney Spears was robbed — even though she didn't release a note of music this year. Her fans are just that loyal.

To be honest, we were sort of blown away by just how many of you cared, so we've decided to collect some of the best responses here. But don't think the debate has to end right now ... if you still feel like your voice hasn't been heard, sound off in the comments below. And now, without further ado, let's get acrimonious.

"Eminem [had] two #1 singles both with sales over 3 million! [He was] iTunes' Artist of the Year, Billboard's Best Male and Best Album ... best-selling single in the UK, VMA Best Male and Best Hip Hop, EMA Best Hip Hop artist, MTV's #1 Hottest MC of 2010 ... opened at VMA and BET awards, Recovery already sold 3 million and still counting copies in less than 6 months (I pray Kanye makes it up to 1 million by God's grace), 10 Grammy nominations ... Eminem had a bigger year and MTV knows that!" — Kennethngbor

"Kanye had a bigger year? Yeah he did. 10/10 from Pitchfork? Yeah. 'Runaway' movie? Yeah. G.O.O.D. Fridays (new song every week)? Yeah. Most critically acclaimed album this year? Yeah. Sold over 430,000 copies without a NUMBER ONE single and being the MOST HATED man in America? yeahh. Need I continue? Em's album wasn't all that. Hell, Teflon Don was better than Recovery. ... 'Ye had a better album, [and] a better year." — Alex

"I think [Kanye] deserved to win. Of course Em sold more records, Hello? America's white-boy rapper? Duh! I mean, he's cool, don't get me wrong ... Em puts out a good CD when he tries, but Kanye killed it ... So to hell with what people say, I'm good with 'Ye winning man of the year." — Hsoj

"I feel that MTV and Kanye have a plot together to make each other bigger. They hyped the you-know-what out of him before he even dropped his latest album. Suddenly he has been back for a couple of months after he took some time off to seek help and he becomes Man of the Year? Come on. Everytime he does something outlandish it's on MTV, so I'm starting to wonder if he and the network are working together to help each other gain publicity. Shady business if you ask me." — JayJay

"MTV, accept the many mistakes you made this year in many of your lists and make a better one next year and stop underrating people! #1 for Kanye is not deserved, he does not deserve to be in the top 5! Usher is supposed to be on this list, Bieber and Eminem are supposed to be higher!" — Emperor

"Kanye deserved this, denying it makes you look stupid because over this entire year, he's the one that brought music (especially hip hop) forward. I LOVE EMINEM, I couldn't be more serious about that, but at the end of the day, Kanye brought music forward as opposed to Em getting back to the level of quality we are used to getting from him. Em's still the sh--, but this year, Kanye made a better product." — Ryan

"Kanye West just put out one of the best acclaimed hip-hop albums of the last 7 years ... he created a masterpiece in the movie 'Runaway' and stretched the boundaries with the moving painting piece for 'Power'. Kanye West did more this year to move [forward] the culture, especially the hip-hop culture than Em did by far. If you make the best album you should be the man that year, simple as that." — ThisGuyCalledJeff

"I'm happy for Kanye, and people should be happy for him too for giving out all that free music and putting out a classic album instead of hating! And I'm pretty sure Eminem is not thinking about this list, because he's making bread off that 3 mill sold, so let's let Kanye shine for a moment please!" — TommyBoy502ky

"I'm tired of MTV giving Gaga too much praise! I can't wait for Britney Spears to release her new album in March! Gaga did not revive pop music. She is good but she is not better than the pop stars who came before her like Britney, Christina, and Madonna ... When Britney came out, she revived pop music! When Gaga came out, she didn't revive nothing. Now Britney will be back with a new album and she will be on top." — IfUSeekPeanut:)

"Okay, let me explain to you why Britney is not better than anybody, she is not an icon, she won't be a legend, she used her physical looks to call people's attention, she is auto-tuned, and she doesn't sing live! Gaga is talented and better than Britney, in so many levels ... she writes her own music, and plays the piano, the problem is that Britney has a longer career, but Gaga will have it too in 10 years; yes she is crazy, and yes she is a freak, but that's what makes her special and unique, Britney these days is just another pop star; the fact that she's been relevant for a decade doesn't mean she is a legend, and Lady Gaga is definitely the icon of this generation." — EMMNL

"I seriously don't care what anyone could possibly say, I love Lady Gaga with all my heart and nothing anyone says will ever change that. I've honestly heard it all, and it only makes my love for her stronger. Can't wait for Born This Way. I'll be the first one to buy it in Canada." — Christian

"There was no other choice [for Woman of the Year]. [Gaga's] carried pop music the past two years. Without her Ke$ha and Nicki Minaj would not exist. She's single-handedly brought dance music from the basement to the Penthouse." — frankru2000

And All Her Dreams Came True!

The Sun got their hands on a bunch of Amy Wino's old notebooks circa 2001 found in a pile of trash on the streets of North London. You know, the former Crackie of Camden regularly lounged in a pile of trash on the streets of North London herself, so the notebooks were probably just trying to find their way back to their owner. But instead, they found their way into The Sun's offices who published pieces from that mess. In the notebooks, Wino wrote a few song lyrics, talked about a boy named Felix and listed all the things she's going to do when she gets a record deal. Well, Wino pretty much accomplished almost everything on her to do list except for the "get a gym membership" part. But who needs a gym membership when you've got crack.

I love the "Live like the bombshell I really am" shit. That should be everyone's life goal. And through most of 2008 and 2009, Wino looked like she just crawled out of a nuclear bomb zone, so that counts, right?

Ke$ha's Cannibal: A Cheat Sheet

Singer has already scored a hit with new single 'We R Who We R.'
By Gil Kaufman

Ke$ha
Photo: Jon Kopaloff/ Getty Images

It's been a pretty phenomenal year for Ke$ha. The brash, glitter-loving club kid burst onto the scene in January with her debut album, Animal, hot on the heels of the smash debut single "Tik Tok."

In short order, she ended the chart run of Susan Boyle when Animal debuted at #1, made her first trip to the Grammy Awards, teamed up with pals 3OH!3 for another hit video with "Blah Blah Blah," dropped in on "American Idol" and hit the road with Rihanna. And that's just the first three months of the year!

But after scoring another hit with "Your Love Is My Drug" and flipping the bird to haters over their critiques of her wobbly debut on "Saturday Night Live," Ke$ha unleashed another single, "Take It Off."

For a minute, there was talk of a follow-up album that might have a country twang, not out of the question considering that she's a Nashville native and her mom penned songs for Dolly Parton and Johnny Cash. But as she said at the time, "I'm also really digging being called, like, half-jokingly, a white-girl rapper. I think it's really funny, and I'm going to ride that train for a little bit."

By August, she was already plotting her next move, telling MTV News, "I'm always writing and kind of thinking of the next step. I'm still executing this record properly onstage, but the next record is definitely on my mind, and potentially in the works soon." She described waking up in Tokyo at 4 in the morning with a brainstorm for a new song and then spending seven hours making a "horrible" beat on "Garage Band" and singing and rapping into her computer.

A short time later, it was announced that her nine-song follow-up, Cannibal, would hit stores November 22 as a "companion" album to a reissue of Animal. The disc was reported to contain eight new songs produced by heavy-hitters like Max Martin, Benny Blanco and Bangladesh and to be preceded by "We R Who We R."

"This year has been carnivorous and life-changing. I have my rowdy, gorgeous fans to thank for taking me on the ride of a lifetime," Ke$ha said in a statement. "My only goal with this record is to keep them dancing. The songs on Cannibal were made to inspire people to ignore any hate or judgment and be themselves unapologetically. It's the perfect companion to Animal and I hope you guys like it. And if you don't like it — bite me."

Though a rumored hookup with Drake was false, a confirmed track list proved to have plenty of profane and silly titles, including (ahem) "C U Next Tuesday," "Sleazy," "Blow," "The Harold Song," "Cannibal," "We R," "Crazy Beautiful Life" and "Grow a Pear," plus a remix of "Animal." After winning an MTV EMA for Best New Act, the singer also locked in her first headlining affair, the Get $leazy Tour, which is slated to kick off February 15 in Portland, Oregon.

Like most major new albums, Cannibal leaked online a week before it hit shelves, perhaps the finest proof yet that Ke$ha has truly hit the big time. Only this time, after most of the songs had hit the Web, Ke$ha just posted the damn thing herself on her website and told her fans to enjoy.

"This is my album premiere, and it's top secret, and it's really fun and it's wild," Ke$ha said in a message posted on her site. "Things are going to get crazy and a little awkward, it'll be okay. Listen to it."

She's going to have plenty of major competition on the charts this week with new releases from Kanye West, Nicki Minaj and My Chemical Romance, but something tells us Ke$ha isn't that worried.

Open the floodgates! It's Mega-Release Week, with Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Jay-Z, Ne-Yo, Ke$ha, My Chemical Romance and Lloyd Banks all dropping new albums. Stick with MTV News for everything you need to know about the brand-new music.

'If the ratings dip, the phone stops ringing'

This is an - aren't Tamsin Greig and Stephen Mangan wonderful?! - love fest hidden within
A Matt LeBlanc Post
wrapped in an 'American and British TV shows are different' blanket

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

‘It could have been the next Frasier, outshining even the hit sitcom which spawned it, but instead Friends spin-off Joey was a flop.Cancelled midway through it is second series, after audiences plunged from 18.6million in the first episode to just 4million for the last, the show proved a bruising experience for Matt LeBlanc.

In the five years since then, he shunned Hollywood, spending time instead with his young daughter. But now he has been tempted out of his self-imposed sabbatical, to star in the BBC sitcom Episodes – about the trial and tribulations of British comedy writers trying to remake a UK hit for the Americans. sounds good to me

‘I had been burnt out,’ LeBlanc says. ‘Twelve years playing the same guy. But when they told me the idea behind Episodes I thought, “That's probably going to be good – yeah, get off the couch!”

‘In the beginning I was a little afraid of being exposed as the scripts hadn't been written yet – I was pretty nervous about what they might be making fun of.’

Especially as he plays a version of himself, the archetypal Hollywood playboy brought in to replace an erudite Royal Shakespeare Company actor. In the taster trailer put out by co-production partners Showtime before filming began, the real LeBlanc has to audition for the chance to play himself: ‘How could I not get it?’ a bewildered Matt asks his agent. ‘Well, they're seeing some really good people…’

He says his portrayal of Joey still affects the way people respond to him: ‘People will come up to me and speak slowly, or they'll ask me if I'm OK because I'm a lot more low-key and subdued than Joey Tribbiani was. He was very high energy; he talked loudly. But I'm not really like that. I had a lot of coffee when we were shooting Friends.

‘I didn't want the character to be too much like me because frankly it wouldn't be very interesting. He is more Matt LeBlanc than Matt LeBlanc, just as the Larry David on Curb Your Enthusiasm is some evil twin approximation of the real one.

‘The fictional Matt LeBlanc is a little more damaged emotionally than I am. He has two sons, whom he clearly adores, and is going through a nasty divorce.’

The real LeBlanc is divorced, and has a daughter rather than sons. He adds: ‘In many respects it's not autobiographical at all, although sometimes it seems to get a little close. For example, there's a scene where I talk about my need to sabotage my own happiness, and another where I admit that I have an inability to appreciate the consequences of my actions. In truth I am learning a lot about myself.

‘It's really liberating. When you get pigeonholed as one character, people tend to think, “That's all he can do”. In Episodes the network insists that the character stick to type and play a hockey coach. It's a kind of metaphor about the sacrifices you make, the compromises to your art when the idea of fame and success are introduced.

‘The Matt LeBlanc in the show uses the fact that people assume I'm dumb because I played the dumb guy in Friends to manipulate situations to his advantage. He manipulates the writers so that the show is more the way he wants it to be. Not that he's right, but it exposes his insecurities about his ability.’

Of his own experiences of a high-profile comedy, LeBlanc says: ‘Network television can be a fair-weather friend. If the ratings dip slightly, the phone stops ringing pretty instantly. Obviously a lot of those experiences are exaggerated in the script for the sake of comedy, presented as the worst case scenario, but it's really funny, cleverly executed, a nice balance of heart and funny.
‘There are so many things about Hollywood that I think are taken for granted in America. The way they are seen through fresh eyes in Episodes gives you the chance to see how weird certain things are – the house, the fakeness, the money that's involved when you get to network level, and the wastefulness.’

The clash between the British and American ways of making TV is at the heart of the comedy, something producer Jimmy Mulville has experience of. Although he successfully exported Whose Line Is It Anyway to the States, Game On, the Nineties comedy based around an agoraphobic in a flat-share, proved more problematic.

After showering the show with praise, Mulville said that the Fox network executives who bought it ('Love it, it's so sophisticated!') then questioned its very premise: ‘”Can't he leave the house once, to go down to Foot Locker?” they said. Bit by bit it got eroded from being a distinctive, quirky, Black Comedy into being about three jolly people sharing an apartment and it never got made.

‘American network television is driven by numbers and by panic really. I've learned that 90 per cent of producing is protecting your original idea, playing defence, absorbing the worst notes and trying to ensure they don't damage the show.

"It's a difficult transition from here to the States, and The Office, of course, is one glorious exception. We did Worst Week Of My Life, which lasted for 16 episodes in 2009 and we're also developing Outnumbered with Fox – our original pilot didn't work as it was too cheery and whacky. Outnumbered is painful sometimes and real and gritty, and they don't like that much in America.’

LeBlanc also found working on Episodes a new experience, because of it was a single-camera shoot rather than a multi-camera sitcom in front of an audience. ‘Making Friends was like being in a play,’ he said. ‘The audience is in the scene with you and you have to wait for the laughter to die down before you deliver your next line.

‘Not having a live studio audience took some getting used to. I hadn't worked for four years, so to get back in front of the camera, say a punchline and not have a huge audience react to – that took some getting used to!’

But on occasion he could hear writers David Crane and Jeffrey Klarik laughing next to the monitors, forgetting that they could be heard on set: ‘They had to be reminded not to laugh because absolutely everything gets picked up by the mics – it took them a little time to get used to as well.’

As TV veterans, the writers has plenty of experience to draw on. ‘We've both been very lucky in television,’ says David, "But we've definitely got our war stories. It's a challenging process because the industry is ruled by fear. You have all this money being spent, and you have all these executives who need to justify themselves and their jobs. They're terrified they'll make a mistake. The trouble is, no one really knows the answers. They're not stupid people... for the most part!’

Jeffrey agrees: ‘It doesn't matter who you are or what you've done before, the minute they think that your show's not going to be a hit, they panic. They bury you with notes. Or they decide you're dead before you're even on the air. Yesterday they loved you, and today your call's not being returned. It gets very chilly very fast. It's a punishing process.

‘When you decide you want to become a television writer, you naively assume it's going to be like the writers on the old Dick Van Dyke Show. You'll write something and they'll just put it on TV. But what you quickly discover is that American network television is television by committee.

‘By contrast, working on Episodes was exactly what we'd hoped it would be. Both the BBC and Showtime have been amazing. We couldn't believe that we'd found a place where the network doesn't sit on your head the whole time.

‘Several years ago, I did a pilot about a girls' boarding school and there were two notes from the studio. One was “can't there be boys at the school?” The second was, “Can we get those girls into nighties?” They were 15! I'm not kidding! And these notes were coming in two days before I started filming!

‘But that system also produces shows like Mad About You and Friends, which somehow slip through the cracks. You happen to have one executive who champions it and the best thing they do is to make everyone else leave you alone. It's a fluke, you can't predict it and you never understand why you flew under the radar.’

David agrees: "I'd say that the best thing they did with Friends was just let us make the show we wanted to make.’

They also found the British writing process ‘really refreshing’ compared to the pressure of American team-written shows. ‘We were able to write all the episodes ourselves, which is a luxury you never get back home,’ Jeffrey says. ‘We're used to doing everything with a room full of other writers, which has a way of homogenising everything and limiting a specific writer's voice.’

David agrees: ‘We've also never done a series where we could write all the scripts in advance. It allowed us to really hone the characters' arcs and polish the dialogue before filming started. When you're doing a network show in America, you're writing the episodes at the same time you're shooting them. It's like you're throwing the tracks in front of the train as it's moving.’

They admit to being influenced by British shows like The Office, Extras, and The Mighty Boosh. ‘Sometimes we were pretty intimidated,’ David confesses. ‘When we were writing Episodes, we happened to be watching the second season of Outnumbered. We had to turn it off. It was just too good.’

David and Jeffrey acknowledge that the English couple at the centre of Episodes based on themselves, as they, too, both live and work together.

Much like the couple on their show – played by Stephen Mangan and Tamsin Greigwoo!! David and Jeffrey sometimes found it difficult to leave their work behind. Jeffrey says: ‘There is a scene where Beverly says to Sean, “Can we just not talk about the show this evening?” and there is a long, long, long pause and they just can't find anything else to talk about.’

David laughs: ‘Oh yeah, it consumes our lives!’

Tamsin Grieg says the dynamic between her character, Beverly, her on-screen husband and Matt LeBlanc is what makes the show. She said: ‘When there are two men and a woman, people will say, “Ah, that's interesting – the woman will be torn between the two men.” But what makes this show interesting is that there is a love affair of friendship between Sean and Matt. You know when you are in a couple and your husband gets excited about his new best mate? There's a kind of emotional love affair that goes on which is in many ways more dangerous than a sexual love affair.’

Beverly also thinks that Matt is a bit of a twat. In fact there are lots of people she meets in LA who she doesn't really like. I think that if you take somebody out of their comfort zone, they're going to dislike people because they're not liking themselves.’

Mangan agrees: ‘Matt pitomises the glamour, the fame and the money – that's why you go to America, right? Beverly can't stand it, but for Sean it's a total bro-mance. He falls in love with Matt. He can't get enough of LA, of Matt, of the whole thing.

‘It's a Wizard Of Oz phenomenon, isn't it? You want to see behind the curtain, but this is a show that's so completely artificial: it's not the “real” world. That's why people buy magazines like Grazia, to find out the “real” story. But it's just another piece of fiction. Yet people can't get enough of it. We're celebrity obsessed.’

LeBlanc agrees: ‘Celebrity is a funny thing. People want to know what is the magic behind it, what makes it work. You see this polished, finished product and you want to peek behind the façade, to see people's faults, to see the funny in that. There is a lot of upbeat stuff in Episodes but there are also dark moments.’

He admits that he will probably never truly shake off the ghost of Joey Tribianni.Strangers call him Joey more than they call him Matt and seem excited to see him. ‘I look on it as a compliment,’ he says. ‘At the end of the day, it beats digging holes.’

Show sounds promising. Julian needs a cameo, yes?

Whippin' Willow talks to yahoo music

Little Willow Smith got in a bit of promo over the holiday season, sitting down with Yahoo Music for a new interview to promote her rising pop career.

The 10-year-old blog favorite hinted that she might remake her father’s 90′s hit “Parents Just Don’t Understand”, discussed the importance of being yourself and following your instincts, working with Jay-Z, how much creative control she has over her music, and missing out on hanging out with her friends due to recording commitments.

In other news, reports surfaced earlier this month that indicated that Willow may be the support act for Justin Bieber’s upcoming European tour this March. Too much, too soon? I definitely think so, but what do you guys think?

Rihanna, Justin Bieber Top Billboard's Social 50 Chart

Eminem, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj round out the new tally's top 5.
By Jocelyn Vena

As if Rihanna and Justin Bieber needed another chart to conquer, Billboard has given them one. The magazine has just launched the Social 50 chart, which ranks the most active artists on the world's leading social-networking sites, and the two pop juggernauts have landed at the top of the tally.

Rihanna and Bieber place first and second on the list, respectively, followed by Eminem, Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj. Filling out the top 10 are the Black Eyed Peas (#6), Katy Perry (#7), Ke$ha (#8), Linkin Park (#9) and Shakira (#10). Other artists who made the list include Taylor Swift, Usher, Lil Wayne, Kanye West and Paramore.

"We continue to adapt the way we chart the changing landscape of music," Billboard editorial director Bill Werde said about the new chart. "The Social 50 is yet another step in the evolution of Billboard and an important response to our changing times."

For those wondering how the magazine came up with the list, here's the science: Social music-tracking service Next Big Sound collects data from the MySpace, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and iLike websites and tallies artists' popularity using a formula blending their weekly additions of friends, fans and followers. The online behavior of these websites' users and the number of artist page views and song plays they rack up are among the data used to determine the rankings.

"The Social 50 provides a weekly snapshot of the artists with whom music fans engage with the most in the social arena, which in today's world is a significant validation of their investment in an act," Billboard director of charts Silvio Pietroluongo explained. "The chart is a logical complement to Billboard's other popularity rankings."

"The volume of online activity that top artists now receive is too big to ignore," Next Big Sound CEO Alex White said. "We are thrilled that social music activity now receives the same emphasis as the music charts for which Billboard is synonymous."

The Social 50 will be published each week in Billboard, and also will be available on Billboard.com and Billboard.biz.
